Section titled “Best Heroes by stage”Use this as a tier list of the best heroes by stage, matching your pick to where your account currently sits rather than chasing one universal answer.

Ryjong is useful for march speed.
Svyatogor gives a large buff when no captains are in the march. That makes him strong for firing many simultaneous attacks (no shared captain pool to ration), but only at high hero level; he scales poorly early.
Meriones is gear-dependent. His damage profile only lands once you have high-level gear backing him, so he pays off mid-to-late, not as a first hero.
How to level up your hero
Section titled “How to level up your hero”Hero level is mostly a pacing question, not a power question. Two things actually matter:
- Stop before Hero 20 if you intend to spend. The Fast Construction and Absolute Domination packs are gated below Hero 20. Cross hero 20 only after you’ve bought what you intend to buy. See Events & Boosts §Spending Priority.
- Reset talents at the thresholds (Hero 25, 65, 105, 145), not before. Crossing a threshold without a reset plan wastes the new tier’s deepest nodes. Details in Hero Talents.
Otherwise level naturally through daily activity, crypts, and event runs. Event difficulty scales with your top Guardsmen tier, not hero level, so there’s no penalty for hero XP itself; pace troop-tier unlocks instead. See Don’t Rush Guardsmen Tiers.
What is the best hero in Total Battle?
There is no single best hero; the right pick depends on your stage. New accounts do well with Nectarius or Thelensia, early PvP favours Ayrin or Alrick, and in the late game Thaddeus is the strongest option, though it needs an advanced account.
Which hero should I avoid in Total Battle?
Avoid Faron. Its only bonus is Senate voting and it is banned in many kingdoms.
When should I level heroes around talent resets?
Reset talents at the thresholds (Hero 25, 65, 105, and 145), not before, so you do not waste the new tier’s deepest nodes. If you plan to spend, stop before Hero 20 first, because the Fast Construction and Absolute Domination packs are gated below Hero 20.
